It's been so wonderful to see so many in our community stepping up to honor Officer Jaimie Cox.

A local group wants to keep a continual memorial to him and other fallen police officers by renaming a Rockford bridge.

WIFR reports that a group of people are petitioning to rename the Morgan Street Bridge, yes the one that is lighted blue in Officer Cox's honor, to Police Memorial Bridge.

Renaming of the bridge will not only serve as a memorial to Jaimie but also for every fallen police officer during their line of duty.

The group wanting this name change and tribute is comprised of the Cox "family, as well as families throughout the city" of Rockford.

Their hope, according to WIFR, is to collect over 3,000 signatures for this to happen.

Petitions are available through the Facebook page, Police Memorial Bridge - Rockford.

If you are interested in petitioning for this noble and worthy cause, visit the Facebook page above or click here to see and download a petition. Or call: 779-348-5427.

The petitions need to be returned to the following address by January 15th:

Police Memorial Bridge Petition 1643 North Alpine Rd, Suite 104,PMB 191 Rockford, IL 61107

Wow! I think that is a truly a wonderful thing to do for all of our officers who serve to protect us.
