Janesville Police need your help as they are raising funds for a replacement dog for their K-9 unit.

WTVO reports that the Janesville Police Department's faithful canine comrade, Hardy, is retiring after nine years of service to the community.

A replacement dog for the K-9 unit costs $16,000.

That's why Sgt. Dean Sukus has started a GoFundMe page to help raise funds for a new dog to join their force and fill Hardy's former position.

Sgt Sukus says that K-9 units are vital to the force as "they can sniff out drugs that we can't smell, they can be put in situations that are a little bit more dangerous that we wouldn't necessarily put an officer into."

At the time of this report $4,445 has been raised.
