Granger Smith didn’t have to look far to find a reason to record “If the Boot Fits,” the second single from his new Remington album. It’s a country boy’s Cinderella story, and for his family, that fit just fine.

Smith’s oldest child is 4-year-old London. The very first movie Daddy and daughter watched together was Cinderella, and as a result (or maybe vice versa), she loves the character (and all Disney princesses). In this new song Smith tells a love story in which he fits his princess with a boot, instead of a glass slipper. He hopes his fans will love it like he does.

“They can appreciate that I was able to combine Chevy trucks and Cinderella into this song,” Smith says during this interview clip, exclusive to Taste of Country.

“Just a small town Cinderella / Daddy wants you back home by midnight every time we’re together / Yeah, that’s my dilemma / I need more time with ya / I wanna watch the sun rise through the pines with ya," he sings to begin the song.

Additionally, the Jordan M. Schmidt, Andy Albert and Mitchell Tenpenny-written song is going to sound great live. Smith admits it feels great on stage already, and he can’t wait to take the light-hearted country-rocker out with him this spring and summer. The chorus goes:

“Whoa whoa, diamonds in the sky lighting up those eyes / Like whoa, whoa / You’re the kind of fine that i can’t deny / It gets me high, cross my heart hope to die, pick a star make a wish / Yeah girl, you can be my all night / Dancing in the headlights / Fairytale good as it gets / If the boot fits.”

Remington (released March 4) is Smith’s new album, his first on Wheelhouse Records. In addition to “If the Boot Fits,” the album includes his chart-topping hit “Backroad Song,” and a personal ballad called “Tractor.” Fans will also find a new Earl Dibbles Jr. song called “Merica.”
