The construction on I-90 is over! The orange barrels that have been a familiar sight for years are finally coming down. All six lanes of roadway are open for drivers from Elgin to Rockford. Here's the next planned phase of construction.

This first phase of the $2.5 billion project ended on budget and on schedule. With 80,000 drivers on I-90 every day, 15,000 of them semis, Tollway leaders say the project is an investment in the state's future.

Drivers also believe the new road will be safer for everyone when the flakes start falling.

According to WIFR TV 23, phase two of the project which stretches from Elgin to I-294 will be done in 2016. That stretch will go from six lanes to eight.

Happy Cruising Y'all!
