I-39 Fatal Accident Update. Highway remains closed between Baxter and Rt 72

FATAL ACCIDENT UPDATE: News reports indicate that one individual is dead after an accident involving three cars and a semi on I-39 between Baxter Road and Route 72. Illinois State Police are investigating. It's not clear what the status of the other drivers are or what caused the accident.

I-39 Southbound has been shut down between Rt 72 and Baxter Road traffic on surrounding roadways, including Rt 251,  is also slowing down due to traffic that is being rerouted.
