In case you didn't know, Hoo Haven Wildlife Rehabilitation & Education Center in Durand is a HUGE asset to not only the Stateline, but to every furry, flying or slithering creature that lives here.

This year alone, Hoo Haven has rehabbed and released several Bald Eagles, and they actually feed 100 birds a day, 365 days a year. I now understand why they desperately need the public to donate old meat and other food items. I'm hoping we can all pitch in and stuff their freezers for weeks to come!

Donations can be dropped off daily 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. at 10823 Cleveland Road in Durand. If you can't make it during those hours, there is a large walk-in freezer outside across from the main buildings that you can put meat in on your own.

I'm currently kicking myself that just last week I threw out a bunch of freezer-burned meat. Now I know what to do with all that meat next time I do a freezer purge...I'll bring it to Hoo Haven!
