Here’s the Most Unusual Foods On a Stick Found at State Fairs

Why is it that if we put food on a stick we'll eat just about anything? Think about it corn dogs, pickles even twinkies.

Here's a a list of the most unusual foods you'll find on a stick at state fairs not only in Illinois but around the U.S.

I came across this list of State Fair Foods on a Stick on the food network site, that also included recipes to make your own if you feel so inclined to.

These foods were found at the following state fairs last year and most likely will be found there again along with new items as well.

Salad on a Stick - Yep, that's exactly what it is a fresh and healthy alternative to the typical greasy, fried fair foods that the Iowa State Fair offers. Just imagine taking your salad and skewer it on a kabob stick.

Walleye on a Stick - Think of it as a large fish stick battered, fried and easy to dip into tartar sauce with that handy stick. The Minnesota State Fair offers this as it's the state's famous fish. Plus, their fair offers several other different food items stick from Spaghetti and Meatballs. Yes, it's deep fried spaghetti and meatballs on a stick, to a Reuben Dog. think Reuben sandwich rolled up into a hotdog shape and deep fried in batter.

Pizza on a Stick - Although Pizza is typically and easy food to eat with your hands, our friends at our Illinois State Fair found a way to kick it up a notch by "bundling sauce, toppings and cheese into a handy little pouch" and stuffing it on a stick. Illinois' fair is also known for coming up with breakfast on a stick as well. So you can basically eat you three squares at this fair in Springfield this coming August.

Chocolate Covered Strawberry Waffle Ball on a Stick - This sweet treasure can be found at the Texas State Fair. This fair is "known for its fried innovations... and concessionaires compete each year to come up with the best new concoctions." The big hit last year, which you know will return this year, winning the Big Tex Choice Awards was the chocolate-covered strawberry waffle ball.
