A Rockford reading program is looking for adults to help improve children's reading skills. Here how you can help.

The reading program, Rockford Reads, is in need of adult volunteers to read with children in Rockford in order to help reach their appropriate reading level.

After passing a background check volunteers spend one hour a week, one day a week, and a school of their choosing, to read with a child with the goal of their improving their reading level.

Why should you volunteer? Michelle Marcomb of Rockford said she donates an hour a week with a similar reading program in Rockford after hearing about it from a friend.

I do it because I was an early reader and being a reader opened my mind and satisfied my curiosities about many topics.

The next round of volunteers are needed in January.
