The change of season is upon us. The Rockford and Stateline Areas can expect a hard freeze tonight.

A "Hard freeze Warning" means that widespread temperatures tonight will be at  or below 28 °F (−2 °C). A hard freeze may occur with or without frost.

According to WRAL.com:

Temperatures that are sufficiently cold, for a long enough period, to seriously damage or kill seasonal vegetation.This usually means temperatures falling into the upper 20s or lower for at least two to three hours. This warning to alert people to the potential for frozen pipes, radiators, livestock and so on, not just damage to sensitive plants.

Freeze Warning has been issued by the National Weather Service from 11:00 p.m. tonight until 9:00 a.m. Saturday Morning for Rockford and the Stateline area

AROUND 30 ELSEWHERE. CLOSER TO LAKE MICHIGAN...TEMPERATURES WILL
REMAIN SEVERAL DEGREES WARMER.
The national weather service forecast:

Tonight: Widespread frost after midnight. Otherwise, mostly clear, with a low around 27. Northwest wind 5 to 10 mph.

Saturday: Widespread frost before 9am. Otherwise, sunny, with a high near 52. North northwest wind 5 to 10 mph.

Saturday Night: Widespread frost after 1am. Otherwise, mostly clear, with a low around 27. Calm wind becoming west southwest around 5 mph.

Sunday: Widespread frost before 9am. Otherwise, sunny, with a high near 57. Light and variable wind becoming south 5 to 10 mph in the afternoon.
