Data hackers were able to steal customer's debit and credit card information at 1,025 of its U.S. restaurants.

This number of stores is much greater than the number the popular restaurant chain originally believed. back in May Wendy's thought that only 300 locations were affected.

Wendy's issued a press release today saying that hackers were able to gain access to :

  • Credit and debit card numbers
  • Names
  • Expiration dates
  • Security codes

Illinois locations affected include Wendy's Restaurants in:

  • Decatur
  • Champaign
  • Normal
  • Paris

Wisconsin locations:

  • Eau Claire
  • Hudson

No locations in Northern Illinois and Southern Wisconsin are known to be affected.

Wendy's issued the following statement:

"We are committed to protecting our customers and keeping them informed. We sincerely apologize to anyone who has been inconvenienced as a result of these highly sophisticated, criminal cyberattacks involving some Wendy's restaurants," said Todd Penegor, President and Chief Executive Officer. "We have conducted a rigorous investigation to understand what has occurred and apply those learnings to further strengthen our data security measures."

If you used a credit or debit card at Wendy's over the last nine months, you are urged to keep an eye on your card statement.
