Fun Cheap and Educational Summer Activities you can do in Rockford
I am looking forward to spending my first summer here in Rockford. With four kids who love to be active, I have to be creative. So, here are some ideas that your kids will love, help you in the pocketbook and learn some valuable skills.
1. Plant A Garden
This is a great way to spend some family time outdoors. Have the kids pick out different plants and give them tools to dig up some dirt. Also, if they have a favorite vegetable, have them plant that. You will save money by planting your own food.
2. Organize a Book Club
It is always a great idea to encourage kids to read over the summer. Why not make it fun! The Rockford Public Library has a summer book club that is free. There are also many other libraries in the area that participate in book clubs for kids.
3. Take Your Kids To Work
If you work from home or you have a cool job, let your kids be the assistant for you for the day. They can see what mom or dad or anyone else does during the day. Kids get to see what the real world is like and who knows, they may want to do the same thing as you!
4. Teach Magic Tricks
This is a great way for kids to learn how to be free minded. It is also a way for them to perform in front of people. I do not know how to perform magic tricks, so this is also a way for me to learn something new.
5. Oversee a Backyard Sports Competition
When I was younger, I spent most of my summer playing baseball in an empty lot with the neighbor kids. You could organize a mini olympics for the kids in your area. Kids will get exercise and will learn teamwork.
