The National Weather Service has issued a freezing rain advisory for tonight signaling possible hazardous driving conditions for the afternoon commute.

The advisory includes Winnebago, Boone, DeKalb, Ogle, Kane and Lake counties and is in effect from 5 p.m. until midnight.

The National Weather Service's Chicago office is predicting rain changing to freezing rain after 5 p.m. Ice accumulations could be as much as a 1/10th of an inch.

Temperatures are expected to dip down to 21 degrees tonight in the Rockford area. A 40 percent chance of snow is in the forecast for Thursday with a high of 25 degrees.
