Landscaping, lighting and a floating dock on the Pecatonica River are some of the amenities that will make the Tutty's Crossing trailhead an attractive link to the city's downtown business district this year. This is going to be one of the best bike riding trails in the Midwest. Details here.

According to The Journal Standard in Freeport, The Jane Addams Trail has been a work in progress for more than a decade. The trail will stretch from Tutty’s Crossing in downtown Freeport to Madison, Wisconsin, when the city completes a missing link in the path this spring. The city is also stretching the Pecatonica Prairie Trail from Tutty's Crossing, along the east side of the Pecatonica River to River Road, to the U.S. 20 Bypass. Long-term plans call for the trail to extend east to downtown Rockford.

When all said and done, this will be the premiere bike trail ride to experience across Northern Illinois and beyond. That's not even mentioning the economic impact the trail will have for Freeport and cities involved. The FDDF recommends that the city tackle the following projects this year to make the most of the bike path extensions:*Creation of a bicycle lane from Tutty’s Crossing along Stephenson Street to Galena Avenue and looping back down Main Street.

*Mounting a large tourist map highlighting points of interest on the outside wall of PJ’s Stephenson Street Station at 219 E. Stephenson St

*Replacing downtown banner flags, which would "put a fresh face on our downtown,”
