The city of Freeport is under a city-wide boil alert for the next 24 hours due to a water main break discovered at one of the city's main water system sites this morning.

Freeport Water and Sewer Director, Tom Glendenning, tells WREX that the city-wide alert has been issued because it is still unclear which areas are affected the most. He also says that crews are working as quickly as possible to fix the problem, but today's frigid temperatures are causing some delays.
