When I was young I remember eating it, but is it really safe to consume?According to Accuweather.com, that depends on a few different factors. Well pure snow is just water but it really can but it can be contaminated easily. in the Midwest we use lots of salt and chemicals to melt ice so that we can still get to where we're going.  Snow can also contain airborne stuff like smoke, fumes and exhaust. Just about any snow can contain pollution. Like  microbes, dirt and even animal debris.
