Over the Fourth of July weekend, Dierks Bentley set off some unintentional fireworks in Springfield Illinois.

Social Media was buzzing this past weekend as a 183rd Fighter Wing T-shirt worn on Saturday night by country star Dierks Bentley wore NBC's "Macy's 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular" concert was the most talked about thing in Springfield, IL.

The State Journal Register reports that the director of Public Affairs for the Illinois National Guard, Lt. Col. Bradley Leighton, indicated the Guard is as in the dark as the rest of us. Major Gen. William Cobetto, assistant adjutant general of the Guard even called Leighton to find out after Cobetto's wife noticed the shirt.

The t-shirt is an old 183rd shirt because it shows an F-4 Phantom and those haven't been in Springfield for years.

Bradley told the newspaper:

The best we can come up with is that when he performed here in 2011 someone threw him a shirt, The 183rd is obviously thrilled as is headquarters here.

The paper reports that the official explanation from Dierks' media rep Mary Hilliard Harrington:

Dierks often wears vintage T-shirts on stage and this is one that he got from a store in Los Angeles. He thought it was perfect for this 4th of July performance ... glad everyone in Springfield liked it too!
