The House Café in DeKalb has closed it's doors according to report by NIU's student newspaper, the Northern Star.

The House Café, located on Rt 38 in downtown DeKalb, was a favorite place to see local comedy and musicians perform in and around NIU

We have now learned the closing is permanent as the owners issued the following statement via Facebook:

As you may already know, we have been closed most of this week. It is with a very heavy heart that I announce that we will not be reopening.

I apologize for not letting everyone know sooner. We were working til the very end to see if there was a way to make things work, but we just weren't able to make it happen.

Any shows that were booked here are being moved or cancelled. If you've already purchased presale tickets, those will be refunded to you through Ticketfly. Any questions regarding this can be directed to Joel at booking@housecafedekalb.com.

If anyone has any other questions, feel free to email me at alex@housecafedekalb.com. We'll try to keep these emails up for a little while still.

This place has meant so much to me, for so many different reasons. One of the biggest ones being all of the amazing people that I've gotten to meet and interact with on a daily basis. I'm so grateful to have been able to be a part of The House Cafe for the last couple of years. I'm going to miss you all so very much.

The House Cafe owners describes it as a cafe, coffee shop, live music venue, art and community center

The current owners took over ownership of the venue two years ago. A hand written sign in the window says "closed'.
