Just announced from JC Penny Corporate. DeKalb's JC Penney will close in April, store officials have told city leaders.

According to The Daily Chronicle, The City of DeKalb Community Development Director Ellen Divita said a member of the company's public affairs team called the city Wednesday to inform officials of the closure. The DeKalb store is one of several stores closing across the country, Divita said.

JC Penney takes up 55,00 square feet in the Northland Plaza shopping center, 2540 Sycamore Road, DeKalb. Holly Estler, the leasing agent with DLC Management Corp declined to comment further on details of the store or the closing.JC Penney operates about 1,060 stores across the country.

It's a restructuring by the company for 2015. Sad news anytime communities lose a business partner.
