Ice cream lovers, say it ain't so! Dari Ripple in South Beloit could soon disappear, at least temporarily.

The Rockford Register Star is reporting that M & M Dari Ripple ice cream shop, which as been in business for 65 years at 475 Blackhawk Blvd in South Beloit, could be torn down.

The reason? You can blame the City of South Beloit. The city is proposing building a 65,000 square foot facility that would house a new library and city hall.

Dari Ripple boasts "we have the best soft serve ice cream in town." I've had it before, it is yummy. Dari Ripple is also known for their:

  • Specialty sundaes
  • Milk shakes
  • Ice cream flurries
  • Tasty sandwiches

Back in April, rumors that Dari Ripple would close were not true. Dari Ripple went on social media and proclaimed:

However, this time it could happen. It's up to the city leaders of South Beloit. Plans could change. If you are interested in preserving Dari Ripple's location, you can always call and share your concerns with South Beloit Mayor Ted Rehl and South Beloit City Commissioners .

It would be shame to lose this Stateline landmark. The owner of Dari Ripple said if they are forced out of their location at Charles and Blackhawk Streets, they will open up somewhere else and continue to serve up everybody's favorite ice cream treats "somewhere."

The demolition is not a done deal by any means, but could be in the future.
