Cole Swindell is gearing up to release his sophomore album, You Should Be Here, on May 6. In a recent interview, The Boot asked the singer to sum up the project in three words -- perhaps a bit of a loaded question, but Swindell was able to do so, with just a few seconds of thought.

Those three words? "Real life stuff" -- which, given the content of the record's lead single, "You Should Be Here," seems like a solid description.

Swindell has been vocal about the fact that his new album's title track -- which recently hit No. 1 and was inspired by his late father, who passed away unexpectedly in July of 2013 -- is one of his favorite songs he's ever written, but he also mentioned the disc's second track, "Middle of a Memory," as a favorite.

"We'll see what the fans think," Swindell tells The Boot. "I can't wait for them to see it."

Numerous writers have credits on You Should Be Here's 14 tracks, both as co-writers with Swindell and as tunesmiths for songs that the rising star didn't have a hand in: Brad Tursi from Old Dominion penned two songs, and Swindell also mentions Cole Taylor, Michael Carter and Brandon Kinney.

"Ashley Gorley was the big one; he is one of my favorite writers anyway," Swindell notes. "But I did get to record outside songs because, having a little bit of success, people will start sending you their best stuff."

You Should Be Here is available for pre-order on iTunes.
