In light of two separate shootings at the Cherryvale Mall in less than two weeks, security will be increased heading into the holiday season so customers can shop worry-free.

It's probably not the smartest thing to do, but I tend to turn a blind eye to the violence in Rockford so that I can still sleep well at night instead of constantly freaking out about my family's safety. It is becoming harder to do though as the shootings and crime are inching ever closer to my neighborhood, like at the Cherryvale Mall. When the first shooting happened on September 30, I about came unglued with anger. Then the second incident happened and I was ready to put up the "for sale" sign in my yard. I'm tired of this senseless violence overtaking our city, and making us nervous to leave our homes.

Local law enforcement is doing everything they can to keep us safe, and I am thankful the Cherryvale Mall is taking this matter very seriously, especially with the busiest shopping season of the year just around the corner.

Seriously, retail therapy is so many people's stress reliever, so we can't be having this kind of violence putting our happy place on lockdown. Enough is enough!
