It's a sure sign of Halloween and Fall in my house. It's candy corn. Candy corn comes in different colors and flavors, and is one of the top candy treats of the season. Here are some 'sweet' facts to amaze you about candy corn.
Candy companies will produce nearly 35 million pounds of candy corn items this year. That's about 9 billion individual kernels of corn. It's enough to make your Dentist cringe.

Candy corn has been manufactured in America for a over a century with no signs of stopping.

According to How Stuff Works.Com, "candy corn is considered a "mellow cream," a name for a type of candy made from corn syrup and sugar that has a marshmallow-like flavor. Although candy corn tastes rich, it's actually fat-free". That's the best news you'll read all day I bet.

Maybe this is the best news you'll read. I found a pair of "candy corn pants" at Kohl's on East State Street in Rockford the other day. Believe.

Shopping around the Stateline, you'll see 'real' candy corn treats in all kinds of colors and flavors depending on the holiday:

  • Brown, orange, and white Indian corn (the brown section is chocolate-flavored) for Thanksgiving
  • Green, white and red Reindeer corn for Christmas
  • Pink, red and white Cupid corn for Valentine's Day
  • Pastel-colored Bunny corn for Easter

Around Halloween, the traditional yellow, orange, and white colors are the most popular in the fall. It happens to be my favorite as well.

Never too late to stock up on your favorite colors and candy corn flavors because October 30 is National Candy Corn Day in the Stateline. It's enough to make you say "Trick or Treat".

No wonder fall is almost everyone's favorite season.
