If you plan on going out on the Rock River over the holiday weekend, you will notice less Winnebago County Sheriff patrols because of big cuts in this year's budget.

I think sometimes people in town take the Rock River for granted.

We are really lucky to have it running right in our city.

Whenever I get to go out on a boat, it's a great time.

It's awesome on a warm summer day, walking down the bike path at Sinnissippi Park and seeing all the people hanging out on the water.

In a situation like Rockford's, river safety is a big concern.

Through the years, the Winnebago County Sheriff has done a good job patrolling The Rock and keeping everyone in line.

This summer is going to be a little bit different.

According to wifr.com,

"The Winnebago County Sheriff's Department is scaling back its river patrols after major budget cuts."

With an $8 million deficit, $4.3 had to be taken out by the sheriff's department. That means fewer officers on the river this summer.

If you're going out this Memorial weekend, please make sure to use caution.
