The City of Freeport has lifted a city-wide boil order that has been in effect since Monday.

The boil order lasted one day and was due to a 16-inch water main break that left many homeowners, business owners and renters in Freeport without water and in some cases reduced water pressure on Monday.

WREX-TV reports that Freeport water officials were able to restore water service in less than two hours but the city remained under a boil order.

If you live in Freeport it is advised that you let your water run for a bit before consuming it, just to be certain it is safe.

After flushing hydrants and testing the water quality, water officials determined the water is now able to be consumed without being boiled.
