Beginning on Monday, body cameras will be worn by several Rockford Police Department officers.

The Rockford Register Star is reporting that the cameras will appear on 13 volunteer officers. The cameras are part of test program that has been in the works since June of 2015.

The officers will test Taser International Inc.'s Axon body cameras. Here's a behind the scenes look how he cameras will work.

 

 

According to the Rockford Register Star:

Rockford police policy states that recording devices must be on at all times when an officer is in uniform and responding to calls for service or engaged in any law enforcement-related activity.

Body cameras are designed not only protect the officer, but also protect members of the public who encounter an offer who is participating. Camera footage can also be used as evidence in trail
