Despite the problems we are having in Springfield with a state budget, there are still plenty of great places for families to settle down in Illinois. 

The website Wallethub.com did some analysts on 162 cities around the state, using 21 different indicators. According to the website, "Our data set ranges from the percentage of families with young children to median family income to housing affordability." Keep in mind that there were only 162 cities tested.

Here are the top 10 cities for families in Illinois.

1. Morton,IL          72.67

2. Deerfield, IL      72.08

3.Washington, IL   69.88

4. Libertyville, IL     69.76

5. O'Fallon, IL        69.25

6. Hinsdale, IL       69.04

7. Cary, IL              68.51

8. Lake In The Hills, IL  68.01

9. Frankfort, IL        67.23

10. Naperville, IL     66.94

Rockford was unfortunately way on the bottom at 149. They also were one of the five cities that had the fewest playgrounds per capita. Only Peoria and Joliet have less playgrounds. Rockford also came in 4th from the bottom in the highest violent crime rate at 146.

There is some good news for our area. Machesney Park came in 80th and Freeport came in 102nd.
