Thursday's tornado tragedy struck not only affected human life, but also affected a number of animals. Belvidere's Summerfield Zoo was hit and was devastated by one of the tornadoes that swept through the stateline on Thursday.

The Summerfield Zoo is home to a large variety of exotic animals, ranging from reindeer and monkeys to camels and mountain lions. They have everything from A (alligator) to Z (zebra) and offer an up close and personal animal experience along with educational and fun animal encounter presentations.

Zoo damage included a number of fences, sheds, and the main building, which is a compete loss. The zoo staff asks that you keep the staff and animals in your prayers.

All humans are safe. All animals are accounted for. So far, only two animals passed away. They have have lost all of our reindeer fences and sheds. The roof is off the north end of our main barn

If you are an animal lover and if you have time today, and can help here is what is needed:

  • Individuals to help clean up
  • Individuals who have construction skills
  • You donate monetarily, they desperately need it

A GOFUNDME Page has been setup to help out the Zoo, if you can help out financially
