Forecast low temperatures below zero are causing the beds to fill up at the Rockford Rescue mission.

Over the past couple of days, Rockford's largest homeless shelter is at or nearing capacity. WIFR.com reports that there are more than 80 men staying at the Rockford Rescue Mission.

Even though the mission has been at capacity, no one's been turned away.....yet.

Rus Howard, Director of Development for the Rockford Rescue Mission told WIFR

There are a lot of people who are living right on the edge. If your option is staying out in the cold or in the warm Rescue Mission, the choice is easy.

The Rockford Rescue mission relies on the assistance from general public to help, especially in these hard times.

WIFR reports that the Mission is currently looking for these items:

  • Regular Coffee (3lbs. cans)
  • Boxed Cereal
  • Facial Tissues
  • Toilet Paper
  • Cold, Flu, Allergy, & Sinus Medications (cannot contain alcohol, doxylamine succinate, phenylephrine HCI or dextromethorphan HBr)
