Beware As Someone Is Pretending To Be Your Family Member

Another person or group is trying to scam you out of money, and it is happening close to Rockford.

According to a Jo Davies County press release from the Sheriff's department, residents are to be aware of another scam that is happening over the phone.

Sheriff Kevin Turner is giving the heads up to residents that there is someone who is calling you pretending to be a family member who needs money.

They also will claim to be an attorney who is representing a family member and they will tell you that they are in some deep trouble and need money to be represented. The scammer will then ask you to wire them money so the family member can be bailed out.

This is not the first time a telephone scam has taken place recently in the area. Last week, a phone scam involving a caller telling you that your time being free will be ending soon and you are going to jail, unless you give the scammers money.

No matter what the situation is, never wire anyone any money unless you are 100% certain you know who is getting the money.
