Winnebago County State's Attorney Joe Bruscato has announced a Rockford security guard will not be charged for killing a bank robber at Alpine Bank  in January.

According to WREX, the Jan. 20 robbery at Alpine Bank on N. Mulford Road in Rockford resulted in shots fired and one death. Lawrence Turner was shot twice by Brian Harrison, a Metro Enforcement Security Guard and former Winnebago Country Sheriff's Deputy.

Turner died at the scene.  There were no other injuries, according to WREX.

Police say Turner first shot his gun in the air when he entered the bank, and Harrison shot Turner twice, killing him. Harrison was placed on administrative leave after the shooting.

Many Rockford area residents have shown their support for the decision, some referring to Mr. Harrison as a hero.

There's no arguing Brian Harrison's good deed at a crucial moment. Nobody knows the attempted robber's intention - innocent lives were kept safe.
