This season, NIU football fans will have six opportunities to cheer on the defending Mid-American Conference Champions. The 2015 Northern Illinois University football schedule has been announced.

The last time the Huskies have played six home games was back in 2012.

Northern Illinois University reports that the school will celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Huskie Stadium in 2015 and will count down the Top 50 Huskie players in stadium history leading up to the season opener on Sept. 5, 2015, when NIU plays host to UNLV, making the Rebels the first Mountain West Conference team to play in Huskie Stadium. Following the UNLV match-up, the Huskies will take on Murray State at home (Sept. 12), and play at defending national champion Ohio State (Sept. 19) and at Boston College (Sept. 26) in non-conference play in September. NIU opens the season with back-to-back home games for the first time since 2011.

NIU head coach Rod Carey said:

"We're excited to open the season with back-to-back home games this year, and really happy to be playing six games at Huskie Stadium instead of five [the last two years],"

Carey enters his third full season at the helm of the Huskie program with a career record of 23-6. NIU has won 31 of its last 32 games played in Huskie Stadium, including a school-record 28-game home winning streak from 2009-2014
