The Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program is a federally assisted program that provides fresh fruits and veggies to elementary schools across the country with the hopes of improving children's diets and promoting healthier lifestyles. Recently, 15 Rockford Public Schools were chosen  as recipients for the 2017-2018 school year.

I was the kid that brown-bagged my lunch to school every day. No, it's not because my parents made me, but because I am one of the pickiest eaters on the planet, and I was convinced that school lunch nastiness was going to kill me. School lunches have improved in recent years, but they're about to get even healthier for these 15 Rockford schools according to the USDA Food and Nutrition Service's website:

  1. Beyer
  2. Haskell Academy
  3. Dennis Early Childhood Center

  6. Lewis Lemon
  7. Nashold
  8. Lathrop
